Brookings-Harbor Festival of the Arts

Late Bloomer Grant Information

The Late Bloomer Grant was established by the Festival of the Arts Committee in 2003. The purpose of the grant program is to encourage individuals new to an artistic field to develop their potential. Anyone 50 years of age or older who demonstrates some budding creative talents and feel they would benefit by taking some classes, obtaining equipment or some other specific request to further their potential are encouraged to apply. The grants are not based on financial need. Applicants must reside in the Brookings Harbor area which includes the larger geographical area south to Crescent City, north to Port Orford and east to Gasquet.

Jo Mochulski, chairperson of the Festival of the Arts says "It is our belief that the process of applying for a grant may be just as beneficial as actually receiving a grant award because it gets people thinking about themselves, their talents, and potential and encourages them to take a step towards setting personal goals". The Festival of the Arts Committee distributes up to a total of $1,000 each year. All submissions are reviewed by an anonymous, independent committee with expertise in various artistic fields. Committee participants change each year and selection is based on the applications submitted. Since 2003 $5,000 in grant monies has been distributed among 21 recipients.

Individuals may apply for a grant by completing an application and submitting their grant request along with photographs of their work. Finalists may be expected to show samples of their actual work at a later date. The 2008 grants will be awarded at the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Festival of the Arts August 16th. Applications can be downloaded from this website or hard copies can be obtained by contacting the Festival chairperson.

Applications for 2008 must be received by July 1st.
